Alicia Alonso
Circles Insider Event
November 20, 2001

Members of the Producers' Circle level and higher were recently invited to spend an intimate evening with Alicia Alonso at an Artist Insider Event. Ms. Alonso, a founding dancer of The American Ballet Theatre (then called Ballet Theatre) in 1940 worked with dance greats such as Agnes de Mille, George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and Antony Tudor. As a young dancer battling blindness most of her career, she dazzled audiences with her personal interpretation of the dramatic ballet classic, Giselle. In 1959, she founded her own company in Havana, Cuba forming Ballet Nacional de Cuba, which continues to tour nationally displaying Ms. Alonso’s unique choreography as well as classic repertoire.

The event, which took place on Tuesday, November 20, included an interview with Ms. Alonso, which was moderated by National Public Radio dance correspondent, Kim Kokich, and followed by a sumptuous dinner in the Education Resource Center. Insider Events are a benefit for all donors at the Producers' Circle level and higher. The purchase of a performance ticket is not required.
