Workshop Leader Retreat

The Kennedy Center provides an invitational retreat open only to workshop leaders who have previously presented workshops for teachers at the Kennedy Center. Each year approximately twenty-five workshop leaders from throughout the country are invited.

The purpose of this retreat is for Kennedy Center staff to inform workshop leaders about new directions about professional development for teachers. In recent years, the Kennedy Center, in response to current issues in education, has been assessing how professional development workshops are planned, presented, and evaluated. Professional educators, especially those in staff development, have become increasingly accountable to national standards in the arts as well as other subject areas and national testing. The changing perspectives allow workshop leaders and Kennedy Center staff to share new directions for the program, and to explore current research about effective staff development.
