Acclaimed worldwide for his profound musicianship and technical mastery, British cellist Steven Isserlis brings a special Baroque program to our newly re-opened theater. In the authentic style of the period, he plays a gut-string cello and is accompanied by harpsichordist Richard Egarr, known for his "superstar performances" and "crisp, piquant sound" (The Boston Globe). Lose yourself in the sounds of 18th-century Europe as these two artists come together on the heels of their successful 2015 album Bach, Handel & Scarlatti: Gamba Sonatas, which was hailed for its "eloquence and rambunctious energy" (The Guardian).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Notes from Joseph "Yossi" Kalichstein, Artistic Director of Fortas ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ People are often so inclined to equate the Baroque period with Bach that one can easily forget that the movement, lasting less than a century, produced quite a number of other giants as well. I am grateful to Steven Isserlis and Richard Egarr for opening that treasure box for us and playing not only a masterpiece by J.S. Bach, but also great works by Scarlatti, Boccherini, and Handel.
