About

What if the great and tragic story of King Lear were to be told by the King's closest companion? In this one-woman tour-de-force, Susanna Hamnett plays the Fool (who, in good Shakespearean tradition, is disguised as a boy) and every other character to tell a personal and poignant story that borrows from the Bard's legendary words.

Winner of the 2012 International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY) Victor Award for Outstanding Production, Nearly Lear is "a frisky, funny, vaudevillian… tantalizing introduction to the lifelong pleasures of seeing and reading Shakespeare." The New York Times also sings the praises of Susanna, who has trained in the arts of Shakespearean acting and clowning: she's "an energetic, virtuosic performer with a touch of the endearing goofball!" She'll play with language, venture into the audience, and pack an emotional and humorous punch with this delightfully accessible show. Most enjoyed by age 9 and up.
All patrons, regardless of age must have a ticket.
